Fundraising Campaigns

To fund the Devonport Park Voluntary Gardeners: 

The FoDP raise funds continually to fund the puchase of seeds, plants, soil, materials and tools required for their work within the park. Ways in which they do this include:

• the sale of plants, hanging baskets and the like from "the wheelbarrow" - located at the entrance to The Training Centre (just inside The Fore Street entrance to the park).

• Occassional sales of plants and baskets during summer events within Devonport Park.

• The sale of donated books in the Devonport Park Pavilion Cafe.

• The sale of rose bushes to be planted within The Memorial Rose Garden.

• direct donations from the public of money and goods.

There are many ongoing costs for the operation of the voluntary gardening team which the charity need to cover, with assistance from the local council. Here are some and we hope this will give a good idea as to where your generous donations will be put to use:

• purchase of seeds, plug plants, compost, fertiliser, hanging baskets, plant pots etc

• purchase of tools and high-vis jackets when needed

• sundry costs for refreshments and snacks

Toddler Play Park Fundraising Campaign

There are three main play areas located within Devonport Park:

- one a large expansive play area for ages above the toddler mark and which contains the slide and zip-line

- a Sensory Garden located further down from the larger play area and nearer to "squirrel alley" and,

- a Toddler Play Area located up nearest to the outside seating area of the Pavilion Cafe.

Unfortunately, the toddler play area was never well-designed and now stands, due to decay and time, rather empty. It was always envisioned, by the Friends, that this area be well-used and it was located in its current place so that parents could see their toddlers and be near to them whilst enjoying the refreshments served from the cafe. 

Recent public consultation and online votes have confirmed that this play area needs to be improved, with new and better play equipment supplied. There are strict rules about who can provide and manufacture play equipment within Plymouth parks and the FoDP estimate that at least £6000 is required for the purchase and installation of 1 - 2 small to medium pieces of equipment.

Other projects in the pipeline...

There are a variety of projects that the charity would like to complete within the park and these will be completed as and when the charity have the fund. In addition to these, there are many costs to running the charity and it's annual events. Below is a list of just some of the costs and projects we are awaiting funds to complete. Costs general:

• office running costs

• office equipment

• paper and office sundries

• purchase of our own storage container

Projects:

• repair the poor drainage in one of the Petanque pitches

• restoration of the historic Boer War Memorial known as "The Doris Gun"

• repair, clean & in some cases, relay, the memorial pavers surrounding the bandstand
